LU Le Petit Écolier, which translates to 'The Little Schoolboy', is one of France's most iconic biscuit brands. The product consists of a buttery biscuit topped with a thick slab of milk chocolate, famously featuring a relief image of a nineteenth-century schoolboy. The brand has a deep-seated heritage in French culinary culture, often associated with traditional afternoon snacks.
While the brand originated in Nantes as a small family-run biscuit company, its manufacturing has expanded following its acquisition by global conglomerates. Today, while much of the production remains centered at historical sites in France to preserve the authentic recipe and quality, the brand's distribution and supply chain are managed on a global scale.
Ownership of LU transitioned from its founders to the Danone Group and was eventually acquired by the American multinational Mondelēz International. Under Mondelēz, LU has been integrated into a massive portfolio of global snacking brands, ensuring that these traditional French biscuits reach markets worldwide while maintaining their classic identity.
