Mendl's is the iconic fictional bakery featured in Wes Anderson's 2014 film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. Famous for its 'Courtesan au Chocolat'—a triple-stacked choux pastry filled with chocolate, vanilla, and mocha cream—the brand has become a cultural phenomenon despite its fictional origin.
While the bakery is set in the fictional Republic of Zubrowka, the actual filming took place in Görlitz, Germany. The pastries themselves were designed for the film by a local baker and have since been recreated by pastry chefs and fans worldwide. The brand and its aesthetic are the intellectual property of the film's production companies and Wes Anderson.
