La Chouffe is a world-renowned Belgian blond beer produced by Brasserie d'Achouffe. The brand was founded in 1982 by brothers-in-law Pierre Gobron and Chris Bauweraerts in a small village in the Ardennes mountains. It is famously identified by its mascot, a gnome (kabouter) named Marcel, which appears on its yellow labeling.
Originally starting as a hobby project, the brewery's success led to its acquisition in 2006 by the Duvel Moortgat Brewery. This allowed for significant international expansion. While the brewery maintains its traditional production methods in Achouffe, Belgium, the brand is now part of a large global portfolio of specialty beers managed from Breendonk.
