Alpro is a pioneering European brand specializing in plant-based food and drink products. Founded in Belgium in 1980, it has become a leader in the dairy alternative market, focusing on products made from soy, almonds, hazelnuts, cashew, rice, oats, and coconut. The manufacturing of Alpro products occurs predominantly in its main production facilities in Wevelgem, Belgium, and Issenheim, France, though it maintains a supply chain that spans across Europe.
The brand was originally established by the Vandemoortele Group. In 2009, it was acquired by Dean Foods, and later became part of The WhiteWave Foods Company. The ultimate ownership changed significantly in 2017 when the French multinational food-products corporation Danone acquired WhiteWave Foods. Today, Alpro operates as a key brand under Danone's plant-based division, reflecting a global shift towards sustainable and vegan-friendly dietary options.
