Gloria Jean’s Coffees began its journey in 1979 in Long Grove, Illinois, as a small gourmet coffee and gift shop founded by Gloria Jean Kvetko. The brand quickly gained popularity for its high-quality specialty coffee and expanded rapidly across the United States. In the mid-1990s, the brand's international rights were acquired by Australian entrepreneurs, leading to a massive global expansion that eventually shifted the brand's center of gravity to Australia.
Today, the brand's manufacturing and roasting processes are decentralized to maintain freshness across its global footprint. While specialty beans are sourced from various coffee-growing regions worldwide, the primary roasting operations for the international markets are based in Sydney, Australia. Other regional hubs often manage local distribution and roasting to meet the specific demands of their markets.
The ownership of Gloria Jean’s Coffees has evolved significantly over the decades. In 2014, the brand was acquired by Retail Food Group (RFG), a major Australian multi-brand retail food franchisor. RFG continues to act as the ultimate owner, overseeing the brand's global strategy, franchising operations, and brand consistency from its headquarters in Queensland, Australia.
