Scott's Porage Oats is a quintessential Scottish breakfast staple with a history dating back to 1880. Founded by brothers Alfred and Robert Scott in Glasgow, the brand originally operated as A&R Scott and specialized in oat flour before adopting the distinctive 'Porage' name in 1914—a unique spelling created by the founders to distinguish their product.

Since 1947, the production has been centered at the Uthrogle Mills in Cupar, Fife, where the oats are still milled today. The process involves rolling the oats thicker than standard varieties and gently kilning them to create a heartier texture and the brand's signature nutty flavor.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major food conglomerates over the decades. It was acquired by Cerebos in 1951, which later became part of Rank Hovis McDougall. In 1982, the brand was purchased by Quaker Oats Ltd, and following the 2001 merger of the Quaker Oats Company with PepsiCo, Scott's Porage Oats became part of the PepsiCo global portfolio. Despite these changes in corporate ownership, the brand maintains its strong Scottish identity and continues to be manufactured in Scotland.
