Wasa is the world's largest producer of crispbread, originally founded in Sweden in 1919 by Karl Edvard Lundström under the name Skogaholms Bröd. The brand was later renamed Wasa after the Swedish King Gustav Vasa. It has historically been a staple of Northern European diets, known for its high fiber content and long shelf life.
In 1999, the brand was acquired by the Italian multinational food company Barilla. Today, while the brand remains deeply rooted in its Swedish heritage, manufacturing takes place in dedicated facilities in Filipstad, Sweden, and Celle, Germany, to serve the global market. The Barilla Group, headquartered in Parma, Italy, continues to manage the brand as a key part of its international bakery portfolio.
