Salomon is a historic French sports equipment brand founded in 1947 by François Salomon and his family in Annecy, France. Initially a workshop producing saw blades and ski edges, the company evolved into a global leader in outdoor and mountain sports gear. Over the decades, the brand has become synonymous with alpine skiing, trail running, and high-performance technical apparel.

Manufacturing for Salomon products, particularly textiles and headwear like beanies, occurs in multiple countries across Asia and Europe to satisfy global demand while maintaining technical standards. Ownership has changed hands several times in the modern era; Salomon was acquired by Adidas in 1997, then sold to the Finnish group Amer Sports in 2005. Today, Amer Sports—and by extension Salomon—is primarily owned by a consortium led by the Chinese sportswear giant Anta Sports. Despite its international ownership, the company maintains its design headquarters and global identity in the French Alps.
