Salomon is a historic brand widely recognized in the outdoor sports world, particularly for its innovations in skiing and trail running. Founded in 1947 in Annecy, France, the company began as a small wood saw and ski edge workshop. Over decades, it evolved into a global leader in outdoor gear, introducing technical footwear that revolutionized mountain sports.

While the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in the French Alps, its manufacturing is now global to meet international demand. Most Salomon footwear is produced in specialized facilities across Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, China, and Cambodia. The brand has also recently been part of a 're-shoring' effort, opening an automated factory in France for specific high-end technical lines.

In terms of ownership, Salomon was acquired by Adidas in 1997 and later sold to Amer Sports in 2005. Amer Sports itself was acquired by a consortium led by the Chinese sportswear giant Anta Sports in 2019. Today, Salomon remains a core brand under the Amer Sports umbrella, which is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, and is majority-owned by Anta Sports.
