The Miniature Schnauzer is a breed of small dog of the Schnauzer type that originated in Germany in the mid-to-late 19th century. They were originally bred to be efficient ratters and farm dogs. This breed was developed by crossbreeding the Standard Schnauzer with smaller breeds such as the Poodle or Affenpinscher. Unlike commercial products, a living breed does not have a manufacturing site but is bred by individual breeders globally.
As a biological entity and recognized dog breed, it is not 'owned' by a corporation. However, the breed standards are maintained by kennel clubs such as the American Kennel Club (AKC) or the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). These organizations define the physical and behavioral traits that characterize the breed. The Miniature Schnauzer remains one of the most popular breeds globally due to its temperament and hypoallergenic coat.
