Tooheys New is one of Australia's most iconic lager brands, with a history dating back to 1869 when brothers John and James Toohey began brewing in Sydney. Known for its distinctive blue, red, and white packaging featuring a prominent stag, the beer is marketed as a classic 'Refreshing Aussie Lager' and has remained a staple in Australian pubs and bottle shops for over 150 years.
While the brand is deeply rooted in Australian heritage, its ownership has transitioned to international conglomerates over the decades. Today, Tooheys is produced by Lion, a major beverage and food company operating across Australasia. Lion itself is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kirin Holdings Company, Limited, a Japanese multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo. Despite the international ownership, the beer continues to be brewed locally in Australia, primarily at the Tooheys Brewery in Lidcombe, New South Wales, ensuring it maintains its local manufacturing presence.
