Calvé is a historic Dutch brand with roots dating back to the late 19th century. It originated in 1883 with the founding of the Nederlandsche Oliefabriek (NOF) by Jacques van Marken in Delft, Netherlands. In 1898, the NOF merged with the French oil company owned by the Calvé family (Emmanuel and George Calvé) to form the 'Fransch-Hollandsche Oliefabrieken Calvé-Delft'. This merger created the foundation for what would become one of the most iconic household names in the Netherlands, famous for its mayonnaise, peanut butter, and sauces.
The brand was acquired by the Margarine Unie (the Dutch predecessor of Unilever) in 1928, making it one of the oldest brands in the Unilever portfolio. Today, Calvé is a global flagship brand under the ultimate ownership of Unilever PLC.
Manufacturing for Calvé is diversified to serve different regional markets. While peanut butter and mayonnaise for the Dutch and northern European markets are historically tied to the Netherlands, production also takes place in other countries such as Spain (for 'Sabor Casero' variants) and Turkey, depending on the specific product and target region.
