Macpac is a renowned outdoor brand that traces its roots back to Christchurch, New Zealand. Founded in 1973 by Bruce Fyfe and Des Meikle, the company initially gained fame for its durable hiking packs and technical mountaineering gear. Over the decades, it has evolved into a comprehensive outdoor retailer, outfitting explorers for everything from local treks to polar expeditions.
While the brand was designed and engineered in New Zealand's rugged Southern Alps, the manufacturing process has decentralized over time to keep up with global demand. Today, Macpac products are manufactured across multiple countries, including Vietnam and China, while maintaining strict quality control and sustainability standards.
In 2018, Macpac was acquired by Super Retail Group, one of Australasia's largest retailers. This acquisition integrated Macpac into a portfolio that includes other major brands like BCF, rebel, and Supercheap Auto. Under this ownership, the brand continues to focus on ethical sourcing and high-performance equipment for the global market.
