TVR is a renowned British manufacturer of high-end sports cars, famously known for its lightweight bodies and powerful engines. Founded in 1947 by Trevor Wilkinson in Blackpool, England, the brand name itself is a contraction of the founder's first name. For decades, TVR established a reputation for producing purist driving machines without electronic driver aids, such as the Griffith, Chimaera, and Cerbera.
Throughout its history, the company has undergone several ownership changes. After being led by Peter Wheeler for many years, it was sold to Russian businessman Nikolay Smolensky in 2004. However, production eventually stalled. In 2013, the brand was brought back to British ownership by a syndicate led by Les Edgar under TVR Automotive Ltd. The company focuses on maintaining its British heritage, with engineering and design centered in the UK.
The brand's revival involves the development of new models like the Griffith, utilizing innovative manufacturing processes such as Gordon Murray's iStream design. Currently, the ultimate ownership rests with the British consortium, aiming to return the brand to the forefront of the specialist sports car market with a focus on artisanal British craftsmanship and exhilarating performance.
