The Body Shop is an iconic global brand known for its commitment to ethical beauty and cruelty-free products. Founded by Anita Roddick in Brighton, England, in 1976, the brand revolutionized the retail industry by focusing on natural ingredients and social activism.
Over the years, the brand has seen multiple shifts in ownership. After being owned by the French cosmetics giant L'Oréal and subsequently the Brazilian group Natura & Co, the company was acquired by the private equity firm Aurelius Group in late 2023. This transition has marked a new chapter for the brand as it seeks to stabilize and grow its footprint in the international personal care market while maintaining its foundational values of fair trade and environmental protection.
Manufacturing remains largely concentrated in the United Kingdom, where the brand's core formulations are developed and produced. However, to support global distribution, some production and sourcing of specific raw materials take place in various countries through its Community Fair Trade program.
