Gedore, an acronym for GEbrüder DOwidat REmscheid, was founded in 1919 by brothers Otto, Karl, and Willi Dowidat in Remscheid, Germany. Over the past century, it has evolved from a small local forge into one of the world's leading manufacturers of premium hand tools. The company is famously known for its 'Made by Gedore' quality seal, which applies to all its products regardless of the manufacturing site.

It is currently managed by the third and fourth generations of the founding family, specifically Karen Dowidat and her son Christian Dowidat.
