VARTA is a historic German brand that has become synonymous with energy storage and portable power. Founded in the late 19th century, the company has played a pivotal role in the evolution of battery technology, from early lead-acid accumulators to modern nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) and lithium-ion systems.
Today, the ownership of the VARTA brand is divided based on product sectors. The consumer battery division, which produces the 'Recharge Accu Power' series shown in the product image, is owned by Energizer Holdings, Inc. While VARTA AG in Germany continues to manufacture microbatteries and energy storage systems, the portable household batteries are a global operation.
Manufacturing for consumer batteries primarily takes place at VARTA's long-standing facility in Ellwangen, Germany, which remains a hub for high-quality production and engineering. However, to meet global demand and maintain competitive pricing, some components and specific lines are also produced in other locations, including specialized facilities in China.
