Christie is a legendary Canadian brand with roots dating back to 1853 when William Mellis Christie and James Brown established a bakery in Toronto. Over the decades, the Christie name became synonymous with high-quality biscuits and crackers in the Canadian market, most notably for products like Premium Plus soda crackers and Mr. Christie’s cookies. For generations of Canadians, the brand has been a household staple, often recognized by the famous slogan "Mr. Christie, you make good cookies."
While the brand maintains a strong Canadian identity, its manufacturing footprint has evolved significantly. Historically produced in large-scale bakeries across Canada, such as the iconic Lakeshore bakery in Toronto, much of the production has shifted to other North American facilities following corporate restructuring. Today, Christie products are manufactured in various locations across North America, including Mexico and parts of the United States, to serve the broader market under the global snack portfolio.
Throughout its history, Christie underwent several corporate transitions. It was acquired by Nabisco (National Biscuit Company) in 1928, which later became part of RJR Nabisco. In 2000, Kraft Foods acquired Nabisco, and when Kraft Foods split into two separate entities in 2012, the Christie brand was placed under the global snacking powerhouse, Mondelez International. Today, Mondelez International manages Christie as its primary Canadian biscuit brand, maintaining the legacy of the original Toronto bakery within a global operational framework.
