Odeon Cinemas is one of the most iconic cinema brands in the United Kingdom, tracing its origins back to 1928 when it was founded by Oscar Deutsch in Brierley Hill, West Midlands. The brand is synonymous with the Golden Age of British cinema, characterized by its distinctive Art Deco architectural style and a name that was famously marketed as an acronym for 'Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation.'

Throughout its history, Odeon has undergone several changes in ownership, including a long period under the Rank Organisation. In 2004, it was acquired by Terra Firma Capital Partners and merged with United Cinemas International (UCI) to create the largest cinema operator in Europe. This consolidation solidified its market position across the UK and Ireland.

In 2016, a major transition occurred when the brand was sold to AMC Theatres, the world's largest movie exhibition company. As of 2024 and looking toward 2026, Odeon operates as a key subsidiary of AMC, which is headquartered in the United States. Despite its American ownership, Odeon remains primarily focused on the British and European markets, continuing to provide premium theatrical experiences through its Odeon Luxe locations and cutting-edge screening technologies.
