Itambé is a prominent Brazilian dairy brand founded in 1948 in the state of Minas Gerais. Originally established as a cooperative (CCPR - Cooperativa Central dos Produtores de Leite de Minas Gerais), it became one of the largest milk processors in the country. The brand is widely recognized for its diverse dairy portfolio, including milk, yogurt, and the traditional Brazilian creamed cheese spread known as requeijão.
In 2017, the ownership of Itambé underwent a significant change when the French dairy giant Groupe Lactalis acquired a controlling stake from Vigor Alimentos. Today, Itambé operates as a key subsidiary of Lactalis do Brasil. While the brand remains deeply rooted in Brazilian heritage and continues its production locally using Brazilian milk, its ultimate ownership belongs to the Besnier family's Lactalis group, headquartered in France. The company maintains several production plants across Brazil to ensure the supply of fresh dairy products to the domestic market.
