United States One Dollar Bill

The United States one-dollar bill is the standard unit of currency for the United States. Since its first printing in 1862, it has become one of the most recognizable pieces of currency worldwide. The current design features George Washington, the first President of the United States, based on the Athenaeum Portrait by Gilbert Stuart. These notes are printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) at facilities in Washington, D.C., and Fort Worth, Texas. As legal tender, the ultimate responsibility for the currency lies with the United States Department of the Treasury, which manages the production and distribution of federal reserve notes through the Federal Reserve System.
