L'Occitane en Provence is a globally recognized beauty and skincare brand founded in 1976 by Olivier Baussan. The brand originated in the Provence region of France, where Baussan began distilling rosemary essential oil to sell at local markets. Today, the brand remains deeply rooted in its heritage, with much of its production still taking place in Manosque, France.
The company is owned by the L'Occitane Group (L'Occitane International S.A.), which operates as a luxury cosmetics and well-being products retailer. While the brand has expanded its global footprint and acquired several other beauty brands, it maintains its headquarters in Switzerland for administrative purposes, while its operational heart and history remain in France. In 2024, the company was the subject of a privatization move by its chairman to delist it from the Hong Kong stock exchange.
