Fossify is an open-source movement and software project established as a community-driven successor to the Simple Mobile Tools suite. The project originated in 2023 after the original Simple Mobile Tools brand was sold to a mobile advertising company. It focuses on providing privacy-friendly, ad-free, and open-source alternatives for essential Android applications such as calendars, galleries, and file managers.
As a digital software product, Fossify does not have a traditional physical manufacturing location. Instead, its development is distributed globally, coordinated by independent developers and contributors who maintain the source code on platforms like GitHub. The initiative is primarily led by developers based in Europe, continuing the legacy of original founder Tibor Kaputa's work by maintaining the open-source integrity of the code.
The brand is not owned by a large multinational corporation. It is managed by a community of developers under the Fossify organization. This decentralized ownership structure ensures that the applications remain free of trackers and advertisements, adhering to the principles of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).
