Atomic Mass Games was founded in 2019 by a group of industry veterans with the goal of creating high-end tabletop miniature games based on iconic pop-culture universes. The studio quickly gained international recognition for its intricate sculpts and engaging gameplay mechanics, most notably with the launch of Marvel: Crisis Protocol. By focusing on narrative-driven skirmish combat, the brand carved out a significant niche in the competitive gaming market.
In 2020, as part of a strategic restructuring within the Hobby Next group, Atomic Mass Games took over the development of several major Star Wars tabletop titles from Fantasy Flight Games, including Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: Legion. This move positioned the studio as a primary creative force for Star Wars miniatures games. Today, the brand operates as a key subsidiary under the Asmodee umbrella, which is owned by the Swedish-based Embracer Group.
The production of Atomic Mass Games products involves a global supply chain. While the design and creative development occur at the studio's headquarters in the United States, the physical manufacturing of plastic miniatures, cards, and packaging is primarily handled in China to leverage advanced injection molding technologies. These products are then distributed globally through Asmodee’s extensive logistics network, reaching hobby stores and collectors in virtually every market.
