The brand is well-known for its commitment to ethics, notably being one of the first major coffee brands to introduce responsibly sourced beans through the Rainforest Alliance.

The brand's ownership has transitioned through several major food and beverage conglomerates. It was previously owned by Kraft Foods and later Mondelēz International. Following a massive merger in the global coffee sector, Kenco is now part of the JDE Peet's portfolio. While the brand has deep British roots, its manufacturing processes involve sourcing and production facilities across several countries to meet global supply chain requirements.
