Lek is a well-established pharmaceutical company that originated in Slovenia. Over the decades, it has grown from a regional producer into a global pharmaceutical player, specializing in generic medicines and biosimilars. In 2002, Lek was acquired by the Swiss giant Novartis, becoming part of its Sandoz generics division.
In late 2023, Novartis completed the spin-off of Sandoz, making it an entirely independent, publicly-traded company. Today, Sandoz operates as a global leader in generic and biosimilar medicines, with its headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. While Lek remains a flagship brand and identity within Slovenia, its production and operations are fully integrated into the global Sandoz network, which manufactures products across various sites in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
