Campofrío is one of the most recognized and traditional brands in the Spanish food sector, specializing in processed meats and cold cuts. Founded in Burgos, Spain, in 1952 by José Luis Ballvé, the company grew from a local slaughterhouse into a major international food group.
Today, the manufacturing is primarily localized in Spain, with its main production facilities located in Burgos and various other regions to serve the European market. The brand is known for its high-quality cooked hams, chorizo, and turkey products.
In terms of ownership, Campofrío Food Group underwent significant changes over the decades, eventually being acquired by Sigma Alimentos, an international food company based in Mexico. Sigma Alimentos is itself a subsidiary of the global conglomerate Alfa. Since 2015, Sigma has held full ownership of the brand, maintaining its headquarters for European operations in Madrid while leveraging global resources for distribution.
