La Fageda is a unique social and dairy cooperative founded in 1982 by Cristóbal Colón in Olot, Catalonia, Spain. The project was initially conceived as a psychiatric therapeutic project to provide meaningful work for people with intellectual disabilities or mental illnesses. Over the decades, it has evolved into a highly successful commercial dairy brand known for its high-quality yogurts, jams, and ice creams, while maintaining its social cooperative mission.
The products are exclusively manufactured at their facilities within the La Fageda d'en Jordà nature reserve in the Garrotxa region of Spain. Unlike many large-scale dairy corporations, La Fageda operates as a non-profit social cooperative (Fundació La Fageda), ensuring that its primary objective remains social integration through work. It is owned by the cooperative itself, making it a benchmark for social enterprise models worldwide.
