Clairol is an American personal care brand specializing in hair coloring and hair care. Founded in 1931 by Lawrence Gelb and Joan Gelb after they discovered hair-coloring preparations in France, the brand revolutionized the home hair color market in the 1950s with the introduction of Miss Clairol Hair Color Bath, which allowed women to color their hair at home in a single step.

Over the decades, Clairol has undergone several high-profile ownership changes. For many years, it was a centerpiece of the Bristol-Myers Squibb portfolio before being sold to Procter & Gamble in 2001. In 2016, as part of a strategic divestiture of dozens of beauty brands, Procter & Gamble sold Clairol to Coty Inc.

Today, Clairol is part of Wella Company, which became a standalone entity following the acquisition of a majority stake in Coty's professional and retail hair businesses by the American private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR). While the brand has American roots, its manufacturing footprint is global, with production facilities located in North America, Europe, and Asia to serve international markets.
