Drano is one of the most recognized household names in plumbing maintenance and household cleaning. Originally invented in 1923, the brand became a staple in households for its ability to dissolve clogs using chemical reactions. Over the decades, it has evolved from a simple lye-based powder to a wide range of gels, liquids, and specialized foaming formulas designed to tackle specific types of blockages in sinks and bathtubs.
The brand was originally introduced by the Bristol-Myers company (via the Drackett division) before being acquired by S.C. Johnson & Son in the early 1990s. Today, Drano is primarily manufactured in the United States, notably at S.C. Johnson's large-scale manufacturing facilities such as Waxdale in Wisconsin. Ownership remains with S.C. Johnson, a privately held family-led company that has maintained the brand's position as a market leader in the home care industry.
