Itambé is one of Brazil's most traditional and well-known dairy brands. Founded in Minas Gerais in 1948, the company has deep roots in the Brazilian dairy industry, initially operating as a cooperative. Over the decades, it expanded its product portfolio to include powdered milk, yogurts, and butter.
The manufacturing process primarily takes place in Brazil, utilizing milk sourced from local farmers. The ownership of Itambé has seen significant shifts; it was previously part of the CCPL/CCP group and Vigor. Today, Itambé is under the control of the French dairy giant Groupe Lactalis, which acquired it to solidify its presence in the South American market. This acquisition integrated Itambé into one of the world's largest dairy conglomerates while maintaining its local production identity.
