The brand was founded in 1958 by Laxmishanker and Shanta Pathak, who began by selling snacks and sweets from their family home in London before expanding into the iconic spice pastes and sauces known today.

Currently, the brand’s main production facility is located in Leigh, Greater Manchester, where it manufactures products for both the domestic and international markets. In 2007, the family-led company was acquired by Associated British Foods (ABF), a multinational food processing and retailing company. Under ABF's ownership, Patak's continues to maintain its heritage while benefiting from a global distribution network.
