Rompetrol is one of the most prominent energy brands in Southeast Europe, primarily known for its extensive network of filling stations and its deep integration into the Romanian energy sector. Originally established in Romania during the mid-20th century, it has evolved from a state-run entity into a major international commercial brand. The brand is synonymous with high-quality fuels, including its signature Efix range, and provides a wide array of services including automotive retail, refining, and petrochemical production.
The primary manufacturing and refining operations for Rompetrol products are centered in Romania. The brand's products are largely processed at the Petromidia Navodari refinery, which is the largest and most modern refinery in Romania, and the Vega Ploiesti refinery. These facilities allow Rompetrol to control the entire supply chain, from refining crude oil to distributing finished fuels across its retail networks in Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, and Georgia.
While the brand originated in Romania under the Romanian State, its ownership structure transitioned significantly in the late 2000s. Today, Rompetrol is the main brand of the KMG International Group. The ultimate owner is KazMunayGas (KMG), the national oil and gas company of Kazakhstan. This strategic ownership provides the brand with direct access to vast hydrocarbon resources from the Caspian Sea region, ensuring a stable and integrated energy supply chain that fuels its European operations and expansion strategies.
