MG, originally standing for Morris Garages, is a historic British automotive marque founded in the 1920s by Cecil Kimber. While the brand is deeply rooted in British motoring heritage and remains headquartered in London for design and engineering, its manufacturing and ownership structures have evolved significantly. Following the collapse of MG Rover in 2005, the brand was acquired by Nanjing Automobile Group, which later merged into SAIC Motor.
Today, MG is a subsidiary of SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, a Chinese state-owned design and manufacturing company. While some assembly occurred in the UK until 2016, mass production is now concentrated in high-capacity facilities in China, with additional assembly lines in Thailand, Indonesia, and India to serve global markets. The brand has transitioned from traditional sports cars to a focus on SUVs and electric vehicles.
