Metro Dezert is a traditional Czech confectionery item, specifically a sponge roll with a cream filling, partially dipped in chocolate. It was first introduced to the market in 1974 by the state enterprise Pražské cukrárny a sodovkárny, specifically at the Vysočany plant in Prague. The product was named in honor of the opening of the first section of the Prague Metro that same year, and its shape was designed to resemble metro tunnel segments.
Following the privatization of the Czech food industry after 1989, the brand ultimately became part of the portfolio of Michelské pekárny. Today, the product is manufactured by Michelské pekárny Premium s.r.o. in the Czech Republic. The brand remains a staple of Czech nostalgia and continues to be produced using processes that honor its original heritage while meeting modern food safety standards. It is widely recognized across Central Europe, particularly in the Czech and Slovak markets, as a classic local snack.
