Marabou is one of Sweden's most iconic chocolate brands, founded in 1916 by Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst. The brand was established as a Swedish counterpart to his successful Norwegian chocolate brand, Freia. Marabou quickly became a household name in the Nordic region, famous for its smooth milk chocolate and the signature 'M' stamped on each piece.
While Marabou began as a Swedish family business, its ownership has transitioned over the decades through corporate mergers and acquisitions. Today, the brand is owned by the American multinational food and beverage conglomerate Mondelez International. Mondelez is a global leader in snacks and manages a vast portfolio of established brands like Oreo, Milka, and Cadbury. While the brand carries a strong Swedish heritage, manufacturing for various product lines now takes place in several European locations, including dedicated facilities in Lithuania and Sweden, to serve the international market.
