Hot Wheels is one of the world's most iconic toy brands, originally launched by Mattel in 1968 in the United States. Conceived by Elliot Handler, the brand was designed to be a more 'tricked-out' and faster alternative to the Matchbox cars of the era. Over the decades, it has evolved into a massive global franchise catering to both children and adult collectors with thousands of unique models.
While the brand was founded in the US, manufacturing was shifted to lower-cost international facilities early in its history. Today, the vast majority of Hot Wheels 'mainline' cars, such as this Porsche Taycan Turbo S, are manufactured in Malaysia, which has been a primary production hub for Mattel since the 1980s. Mattel, the parent company, remains one of the largest toy manufacturers in the world and continues to be headquartered in El Segundo, California.
