Xeque Mate is a popular Brazilian mixed alcoholic beverage that originated in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. It was created in 2015 by Gabriel Neix and Pedro Neix, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon in the Brazilian nightlife scene, especially during Carnival. The drink is a canned cocktail consisting of a blend of yerba mate, rum, guarana, and lime (Mate, Rum, Guaraná & Limão).
Manufacturing takes place primarily in Brazil to serve the local market. The brand is owned by the company of the same name, Xeque Mate Bebidas, which remains an independent Brazilian entity. It has grown from a craft production in bars to a large-scale industrial distribution, maintaining its identity as an authentic 'Bebida Brasileira' (Brazilian Drink).
