7-Eleven is the world's largest convenience store chain, originally founded in Dallas, Texas, in 1927. Initially an ice house company named the Southland Ice Company, it pioneered the convenience store concept by selling eggs, milk, and bread when traditional grocery stores were closed. The name was changed to 7-Eleven in 1946 to reflect the stores' then-unprecedented operating hours (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.).
Today, the brand is owned by the Japanese retail conglomerate Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. While 7-Eleven began as an American enterprise, the Japanese subsidiary eventually became the parent company following a financial restructuring in the early 2000s. Manufacturing for 7-Eleven's private label products (like 7-Select) is localized, meaning products are typically manufactured in the region where they are sold to ensure freshness and supply chain efficiency.
