Bautz'ner Mustard is one of Germany's most iconic regional food brands, particularly famous in the eastern states. Originally founded in 1953 in the town of Bautzen, Saxony, the brand remains deeply rooted in its hometown where production still takes place today. Known for its 'mittelscharf' (medium-hot) variety, it became a cultural staple during the GDR era and successfully transitioned into a nationwide favorite after German reunification.
In 1992, the brand was acquired by the Bavarian-based company Develey Senf & Feinkost GmbH. This acquisition allowed the brand to expand its distribution while keeping its identity and manufacturing facility in Bautzen intact. Today, the brand belongs to the Develey group, a family-owned international leader in the condiment industry headquartered in Unterhaching near Munich.
