Merrild is one of the most iconic coffee brands in Scandinavia, particularly famous for its 'Gold' blend which has been a staple in Danish households for decades. Founded by Møller Merrild in 1964 in Kolding, Denmark, the brand began as a small roasting facility and grew through a commitment to quality and consumer taste preferences.
Over the years, the brand transitioned from local ownership to international conglomerates. After being owned by the Douwe Egberts group (which later became D.E Master Blenders 1753), it was acquired by the Italian coffee giant Lavazza in 2015. This acquisition allowed Lavazza to strengthen its presence in Northern Europe while maintaining the Merrild heritage.
Today, while the brand is Italian-owned, the production of Merrild Instant Gold occurs in various specialized facilities across Europe to meet global distribution standards, while still adhering to the original quality profile developed in Denmark.
