Quality Street is one of the world's most iconic selection of chocolates and toffees. The brand was first introduced in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, in 1936 by Harold Mackintosh. It was named after a play of the same name by J.M. Barrie and was innovative for its time by using bright, individual wrappers for each sweet in a decorative tin, making high-quality confectionery available to the working class.
While the brand originated with the Mackintosh family business, Rowntree Mackintosh was formed in 1969 through a merger. This entity was subsequently acquired by the Swiss multinational Nestlé in 1988. Today, Nestlé continues to oversee the brand's production and global distribution.
The primary manufacturing hub remains the Nestlé factory in Halifax, UK, where millions of sweets are produced daily. However, due to its global popularity, it may be packaged or produced in other regions depending on local market requirements and international distribution agreements controlled by Nestlé subsidiaries worldwide.
