Miňonky are a quintessential Czech confectionery product, consisting of crisp wafers layered with filling and coated in chocolate. The brand Opavia has deep historical roots in the region, tracing back to a bakery established in 1840 in the town of Opava by Kaspar Melhior Baltasar Fiedor. Over the decades, it became a beloved household name in Central Europe, particularly known for its traditional biscuits and wafers.
Today, the manufacturing primarily takes place in the Czech Republic, specifically at the Opavia-LU factory. While the brand remains a symbol of Czech heritage, its ownership has shifted through various international acquisitions. Currently, Opavia—and thus the Miňonky brand—is owned by Mondelēz International, an American multinational confectionery, food, and beverage conglomerate. This transition has integrated the traditional Czech recipes into a global supply chain while maintaining the local production sites that define the brand's identity.
