TORO is one of Norway's most iconic and beloved food brands, famous for its wide range of dry-mix products. The TORO Vafler mix, specifically the 'familiepakning' (family pack) shown in the image, is a staple in Norwegian households for making traditional heart-shaped waffles.
The brand was originally launched in 1946 by the company Rieber & Søn in Bergen, Norway. The name 'Toro' is derived from the Spanish word for 'bull,' a nod to its very first product: meat bouillon cubes. Over the decades, TORO expanded from soups and sauces into baking mixes, becoming a symbol of convenience and quality in Scandinavian kitchens. In 2013, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when the Norwegian conglomerate Orkla ASA acquired Rieber & Søn. Following this acquisition, TORO was integrated into Orkla Foods Norge.
Today, the product continues to be manufactured primarily at the historical TORO production facility in Indre Arna, Bergen. The mix is celebrated for its 'just add water' convenience, embodying the brand's long-standing slogan: 'Lett å like, lett å lage' (Easy to like, easy to make).
