Gevalia is a classic Swedish coffee brand established in 1853 by Victor Theodor Engwall in the city of Gävle. The brand name itself is the Latin translation of Gävle. For over 150 years, it was a family-owned enterprise before being acquired by General Foods (now part of Kraft Foods/Mondelez) in 1971.
Today, Gevalia is owned by JDE Peet's, a global coffee and tea powerhouse headquartered in the Netherlands. Despite its international ownership, the majority of Gevalia coffee sold in the Nordic market is still produced at the iconic roasting plant in Gävle, Sweden, maintaining its strong local heritage. This specific product is a decaffeinated medium roast (mellanrost) popular in the Swedish market.
