Jitsi software

Jitsi is a collection of free and open-source multiplatform voice (VoIP), videoconferencing, and instant messaging applications. The project began at the University of Strasbourg, France, originally developed by Emil Ivov. Over the years, it has gained a massive global following due to its commitment to privacy and open-source community development.

In 2015, the project was acquired by Atlassian, which fueled its growth as a backbone for professional communication. Later, in 2018, the Jitsi project and its primary development team were acquired by 8x8, a leading provider of cloud communications. Today, while the software remains open-source for the developer community, 8x8 is the ultimate owner and utilizes Jitsi technology to power its integrated video solutions worldwide.
