Zlatý Bažant is one of the most iconic and recognizable beer brands originating from Slovakia. It was first brewed in 1969 in the town of Hurbanovo, which remains the heart of its production today. The brand gained international fame shortly after its launch, becoming a symbol of quality Slovak brewing and one of the country's most successful exports.
While the brand was originally created by the state-owned Hurbanovo brewery, the industry underwent significant transformation in the 1990s. In 1995, the Dutch brewing giant Heineken acquired a majority stake in the brewery. Under Heineken's ownership, the production facilities in Hurbanovo were significantly modernized, and the brand was further integrated into a global distribution network.
As of 2024 and beyond, Zlatý Bažant is owned by Heineken N.V., headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is managed locally by Heineken Slovensko, a.s. Although the brand is part of a global portfolio, it maintains its heritage by primarily sourcing its ingredients locally and continuing its historical production at the Hurbanovo brewery, ensuring that the authentic Slovak character of the lager is preserved for both domestic and international consumers.
