Rama Culinesse is a well-known vegetable-based liquid fat product designed specifically for frying and roasting. The brand Rama has long-standing roots in the German market, originating from the margarine production efforts of the early 20th century. Originally founded under the company Unilever, the brand became a household name in Germany and neighboring countries for spreads and cooking fats.
In 2018, Unilever sold its entire spreads division to the private equity firm KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.), which established a new independent company named Upfield to manage these brands. Today, Upfield is the world's leading producer of plant-based spreads. While Rama remains deeply connected to its German origin, its manufacturing and distribution are managed on a global scale by Upfield from its headquarters in the Netherlands.
