SkinCeuticals is a high-end skincare brand that occupies the 'cosmeceutical' niche, sitting at the intersection of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Founded in 1997 by Dr. Sheldon Pinnell, a renowned dermatologist and scientist, the brand's foundation is built on decades of skin cancer research and the successful stabilization of pure L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C).
Born in the United States, specifically out of research conducted at Duke University, SkinCeuticals has maintained its reputation for scientifically backed formulas. While the brand originated and continues to manufacture a significant portion of its product line in the USA, its acquisition by a global conglomerate has expanded its production footprint to include facilities in France to serve the European and international markets.
In 2005, the brand was acquired by L'Oréal, the world's largest cosmetics company. Today, SkinCeuticals operates under L'Oréal’s Active Cosmetics Division (now known as L'Oréal Dermatological Beauty). This division focuses on brands recommended by healthcare professionals. Headquartered in Clichy, France, L'Oréal provides the massive R&D resources and global distribution networks that have helped SkinCeuticals become a leader in professional skincare across the globe.
