HERE WeGo is a prominent navigation and mapping service with a lineage that traces back to Northern Europe. Originally known as Ovi Maps and later Nokia Maps, the brand was developed by the Finnish telecommunications giant Nokia after its acquisition of the American mapping firm NAVTEQ. In 2012, Nokia rebranded the service to HERE to unify its mapping across various platforms.
In 2015, a significant shift in ownership occurred when Nokia sold the HERE business to a consortium of German automotive manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. This transition moved the brand's primary strategic base to the Netherlands. Over time, the ownership structure expanded to include other global players such as Intel, Bosch, Continental, and Mitsui, making it a collaborative international venture.
As a digital product, HERE WeGo is developed and maintained across multiple global hubs, primarily in Germany and the United States. While the software is managed by the Dutch company HERE International B.V., its utility serves as a core technology for global automotive systems and consumer mobile devices worldwide.
